Feature 2: Cycling Silk

These first two spreads are the opener and jump.

The article is an inspiration piece about a woman who has done long distance cycling in seven continents. She is preparing to embark on a 5,000 mile journey along the Silk Route beginning in Italy and ending in India. The expedition is meant to explore and advocate for transboundary conservation as a force for peace.

The rest are alternate openers and jumps.

Dept 3: Adventures

I need to make slight modifications to this first spread to finalize it including swapping out one of the photos to show something fun/interesting you can see when kayaking. And I think I want to reduce the amount of copy a little. Or reposition the two photos better.

This department will highlight one adventurous, low impact to the environment activity like kayaking, snow shoeing, cross country skiing, cycling, etc. It will also show readers how they can get their own gear.

Dept 2: Escapes

These first two spreads are revisions to the original departments and include a shortened header line, inclusion of a subhead, and insets for additional spa recommendations. I prefer the spacing of the rubric - header - subhead - byline of the first layout vs the second. I'm kind of struggling with the placement of the extra spa insets and might end up leaving them off. Any suggestions, please let me know.

This department highlights several destinations based on a theme like top eco spas, best sustainable mountain climbing tours, favorite preservation sites to view wildlife, etc.

The rest of these are from last week. I modeled the revisions on this first spread.

Dept 1: Insiders Guide

I need to rework this to either show a real timeline or get rid of it altogether. This monthly department highlights one destination and the things to do and see while there for about 36 hours.

Feature 1: 12th Century Red List

This first spread is the final. But I still need to clean up the subhead and I'm not happy with the header font...will try sans-serif.

This article is a discussion with Cambodia's minister of culture about a policy that's supposed to encourage the return of culturally valuable artifacts to Cambodia from international private collectors and museums.
